In my last article, I wrote about the many uses for having a pocket knife, I still stand by the concept that a pocket knife has many and almost unlimited uses for normal day to day activities and even for boating, camping, hunting and fishing.

But, there are still times that you will need something else, and rather than carrying along a complete toolbox, which takes up large amounts of space and if you are on foot, weighs up to 30 pounds or more, which makes hiking with a tool box out of the question.

You might find that if you have a good multi-tool you on you that you can do most of the things that a good pocket knife will not do.

What do I mean by a Multi-tool? Well, today several manufacturers have provided us with a tool that contains several of the useful tools normally found in most peoples toolboxes but all wrapped into one gadget.

1) Most Multi-tools contain a plyers, sometimes needle nose and others are just normal plyers.
2) Most Multi-tools contain a flat headed screwdriver, and a Phillips headed screwdriver.
3) Most have a cutting blade of one type or another.
4) Most have wire cutting blades.

From there you get into things like rulers, bottle openers, nail files, files, tweezers, picks, etc. etc. It just depends on how large of a tool you want as to how many features can be packed into them.

One thing to keep in mind, if the tool gets too large it become harder to carry and harder to use, doesn't fit in your hand like you want.

I would suggest that you take a look at the many You Tube videos out there reviewing the different Multi-tools and what they can do. These are excellent sources for comparing the different features of Multi-tools.
